Rivers Run Through Us: A Walk with the Santa Fe River – march 22

WHAT: In May 2012, three women artists walked the 54 mile length of the Santa Fe River—a pilgrimage and work of eco-art to honor the river, call attention to her endangerment, and bring the river communities together at her banks. In 2007, the Santa Fe River was named the most endangered river in the U.S.  Local citizens, environmental organizations, and the County and City of Santa Fe have worked to restore her.  Rivers Run Through Us, an art and public engagement project, compliments these efforts by cultivating the restoration of our river communities. The future of the river, water and our land depends on deepening our awareness, fostering cross-community dialogue, and nurturing collective efforts. Bobbe Besold, Valerie Martínez and Dominique Mazeaud (project artists) invite women and children to join us for a 2 hour walk of the river with conversation, art and reflection. Walking, increasingly recognized as an artistic medium, is a transdisciplinary practice that collapses the distance between art and life, deepening our relationship to the earth. Walking the river together reconnects us with land, water, and each other. Wear sturdy shoes, and a hat. Bring snacks and water.

Maggi Petton, Psalms of the Broken Hearted – march 22

WHAT: When our hearts break, our pain spills from us. We all grieve, and often feel lost and alone. At times, we try to help others maneuver the messiness of living. Spills, after all, are messy. Sometimes our breakings just require acknowledgment that we are not alone in our pain and that the agony will pass. Here, in Maggi A. Petton’s remarkably raw and moving Psalms of the Broken Hearted, we find ourselves not only acknowledged, but comforted and companioned in our brokenness. Regardless of your faith tradition, these poems are loving prayers of connection and perhaps even healing.
